Giant waterlily on course to make record books

The giant Amazon waterlily (Victoria x ‘Longwood Hybrid’) here at The Living Rainforest is spreading its 2.2m (7’2″) leaves over the surface of our main pool. It has also produced its first flower of the year: a giant, 30cm (12″) white bloom which turns shocking pink over its 48-hour lifespan.

Last year, the giant leaves reached 2.5m (8’6″) across – and if the lily repeats that performance this year we hope to secure a place in official world record books. Watch this space!
