£1.2 million gives rainforest project a new lease of life

Major funding, from a range of sources, including £880,000 from the Millennium Commission, will allow The Living Rainforest to start work on a state-of-the-art sustainable building, as well as develop a major new permanent exhibition entitled ‘The Human Impact’.

The new exhibit will allow visitors to explore the human impact on rainforests and other threatened ecosystems and what this means for science, technology and society. The project will include the renovation of the three existing rainforest greenhouses as well as hands-on demonstrations of renewable energy technologies.

Building work is expected to start in late spring, 2005.
